Exhibition “Anto-Carte. Of earth and sky”

19/03/2022 h 21/08/2022 F Add to the calendar 2022-03-19 2022-08-21 Europe/London Exhibition “Anto-Carte. Of earth and sky”

The exhibition Anto-Carte. Of earth and sky presents a virtuoso of the brush whose work weaves a fascinating link between the centuries. The legacy of the skills of the great masters of painting is expressed in the pictures painted in the first half of the 20th century by this Montserrat artist, whose career was largely international.

Eighty works from public and private collections allow us to see Anto-Carte's painting through the prism of the aspiration to the sacred. The artist's greatest paintings revisit the classic themes of Christian iconography while celebrating the grandeur of the peasant world.

After having devoted two major retrospectives to him in 1945 and, most recently, in 1995, the BAM is offering this focus, through a more meditative itinerary. It is a real invitation to let go and fully immerse oneself in this spiritual universe.

The exhibition continues with a journey through the same themes, this time illustrated by a selection of major or rediscovered works from the municipal collections. A dialogue is then created between the works for a double interpretation of the same theme.
