Exhibition “Art’denne”

06/02/2022 h 18/04/2022 F Add to the calendar 2022-02-06 2022-04-18 Europe/London Exhibition “Art’denne”

The new exhibition of the Museum of History and Art of Durbuy, plunges you into the heart of this vast natural massif and introduces you to some of the characteristics that make this cross-border region unique in Europe.

The Ardennes, a land of legends with Celtic influences, but above all marked by world conflicts, is inhabited by women and men of strong character. A character forged by the forest, the climate and the hard labour to work the earth. The Ardennes spread over three countries: Belgium, France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Countries each with their own individuality but with similar cultures.

Their characteristics have inspired artists past and present. Fernand Léger, Arthur Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine, Milo Dardenne, Albert Raty, André Bosmans, Marcel Lucas, Louis Loncin, will guide you in your discovery of the Ardennes.

20 other contemporary artists will present their "Art'denne". These works reflect their contemporary vision of the Ardennes. As a visitor, you play a central role in this exhibition: you may indicate your favourite works.

Durbuy History & Art Museum (DHAM)

The Durbuy History & Art Museum is located in an old market hall named Halle aux Blés. This building was built in the 16th century and is categorized as extraordinary heritage of Wallonia. The Museum wants to promote Belgium art with its permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Currently, the permanent exhibition is mostly constituted by art work of Marcel Lucas, lend by the Marcel Lucas Foundation.

Marcel Lucas is a Belgian artist from the 20th century. He used the watercolour technique and became a master in the use of colours and light. In his career he painted many different subjects such as the city, zodiac signs and Saint Jacques de Compostelle. The Museum always wishes to expand his collection so our visitors can enjoy the work of others artists. Since the beginning of the Museum in 2017, visitors can discover temporary exhibitions about various themes and artists which valorise the richness of modern and contemporary art.
