Pottery Museum – Castle of Raeren
Since May 2007 Raeren stoneware and the Pottery Museum Raeren carry the label "EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE"
Located in the beautiful setting of the Castle of Raeren (XIVth/XVIth century), the museum presents the very specific story of the potters of Raeren and their famous stoneware products.
With more than 2,000 unique objects (most of them coming from archaeological digs on site), stagings, models, trilingual and richly illustrated text panels and numerous audiovisual elements, the inviting exhibition traces the past of the potters from the 14th century. with their peak during the Renaissance (16th century) but also their decline and its reasons.
The unique collection reveals not only the technical aspects of ceramics production, but also the world of potters’ life and the extraordinary artistic evolution in this craft.
The museum is not limited to the past, but also presents works in contemporary ceramics, collected during the Euregio Ceramics Market which is organized annually on the occasion of the Heritage Weekend.

People with specific needs
The visit can be adapted to other specific needs, also for the visually impaired and the mentally handicapped, especially by integrating the sensory discovery of the earth. Unfortunately, the historic building is difficult to reach for the PRM – only the ground floor is accessible and the courtyard of the castle is paved. For all other needs: ask for an adjustment when you book and describe your needs and wishes.
