The Gaume of yesterday and today.
The Gaumais Museum reveals the cultural identity of this land of Between Semois and Chiers, valuing the tremendous human, natural, industrial and artistic resources of the Gaume of yesterday and today.
The Museum was first installed in 1939 in a remnant of the Récollets convent and later enlarged, in 1990, with a contemporary wing and soon endowed with an independent gallery. It combines archeology, fine arts, civil and religious ethnography, industrial and popular arts, regional furniture, in so many approaches to this singular country, which shares many characters with the French Lorraine region.
The Museum of the Gaume region offers many guided tours, at a reduced price and with different themes. Specific requests can be found in the museum itself, or in the various satellite museums of Montquintin, Buzenol / Montauban, Latour.
People with specific needs
The museum is materially equipped to best accommodate people in difficulty: elevator, adapted toilet and induction loop in the next Récollet gallery. But to discover the collections, nothing beats the guidance of a trained guide.
Understanding the notion of the past through feeling comes down to imbue with sensory images that one is going to intellectualize! This is the program offered by the museum’s educational department through its collections and that of its satellite museums in Montquintin, Montauban and Latour, all while having fun. Tailor-made visits, in agreement with the teachers and the class program that has already been seen or to be seen.
The Gaumais Museum proposes to make its building available for different receptions on the basis of agreements and rates that have been determined in mutual consultation and tailored, or in exchange for a partnership or sponsorship. Contact us for more information.
