Africa Museum of Namur | MusAfrica –> closed for renovation until 2024

The African Museum of Namur aims to promote dialogue and activate memory. Its goal is to highlight the exchanges between the cultures of Europe and Africa.

In its 2015 articles of association, the African Museum of Namur, a non-profit association, set itself the objective of ‘documenting and enhancing all forms of contacts and links between Belgium and Africa, primarily Central Africa’. To this end, the African Museum of Namur acquires, studies, preserves and exhibits objects and documents that bear witness to intercultural ties.

ATTENTION: MusAfrica will be closed to the public from 7 October 2019 due to renovations!
More information about the works? Go to https://musafrica.net/ at the bottom of the homepage. However, activities (exhibitions, conferences, events) will be suggested, so do not hesitate to check the events page of https://musafrica.net. The library remains accessible every Tuesday from 2 pm to 5 pm at the same address.

JSchools

Although all audiences are welcome in the Museum, primary and secondary school students and their teachers belong to MusAfrica’s main audiences. Educational packs and special activities have been prepared to enhance their visit.

For primary schools:

Establishing a link between the past and the present, a visit to the museum provides an insight into Central Africa’s immense cultural and natural riches. The aim is to offer students an original perspective on Africa that avoids stereotypes (primitive Africa, poverty-stricken Africa)

For secondary schools:

A visit to the museum explores the theme of Belgium’s colonial past. Using digital tablets and accompanied by a guide, the students will discover objects that help them to understand colonialism as a phenomenon.

LPeople with specific needs

Unfortunately, the museum is difficult to access for people with reduced mobility due to different stairs.
