Archaeological Museum of Arlon

The city of Arlon is located at the crossroads of two important Roman roads (Reims-Trier and Metz-Tongeren) which allowed the ancient agglomeration to experience a certain prosperity during the first three centuries of our era. Located in the former territory of the city of Treviri, the agglomeration was called Orolaunum vicus.

The various excavation campaigns carried out in Arlon and on the rest of the territory of the province of Luxembourg made it possible to identify vestiges which testify to a rich culture whose various facets are discovered in the museum.

OGroups

One of the peculiarities of the museum is the impressive and rich collection of lapidaria, consisting of several dozen fragments of old burial monuments, four of which have been awarded the “Trésor” label by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation! Through the scenes depicted on these carved blocks and other archaeological pieces, you will discover the different facets of the lives of the inhabitants of our region during the Gallo-Roman era. A small guide, available for free at the reception, accompanies the youngest during the visit.
