Archaeological Museum of Namur
A place steeped in history
A scientific and cultural establishment managed by the City of Namur, the Archaeological Museum of Namur is one of the largest in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in terms of archaeology. More than a compendium of the past, it proposes to put into perspective the knowledge acquired by archeology to understand the present and prepare for the future.
A new setting for the collections of the Archaeological Museum
The City of Namur has invested in the construction of a new museum space within the Pôle Les Bateliers. The former school of boatmen, dressed in a contemporary glass roof signed by the artist Jean Glibert, offers a new spacious setting, with exhibition rooms spread over two floors.
The new presentation of the collections is currently in progress. It aims to make visitors rediscover the archaeological collections of the Namur region and its surroundings, from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages, but also the riches of the subsoil of the capital of Wallonia.
The exhibition halls of the Archaeological Museum are therefore closed to the public for the time being, but the museum carries out its research and dissemination missions in close collaboration with its partners. The museum is also open for temporary exhibitions.
It is also exported through temporary exhibitions and various cultural mediation activities.
