Tourist Center for Wool & Fashion

Aqualaine includes the Tourist Center for Wool and Fashion (CTLM – Centre Touristique de la Laine et de la Mode) and the Bonvoisin building, itself home to the Water House (ME – Maison de l’Eau).

Housed in the former neo-classical manufacture of Thier (early 19th century), the CTLM explains the different stages of the process of elaboration of woolen cloth through the permanent show-track entitled “From thread to fashion”. Equipped with an audio guide (optional), we dive into the era of the wool industry at its peak.

After the surprising collection of machine tools, witnesses of the industrial past of Verviers, comes the course devoted to fashion: costumes, comics and films illustrate and punctuate the great moments of the history of clothing. The brilliantly renovated building, accessible to all, including people with reduced mobility, regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.

The ME (Water House) is located about 200 meters from the CTLM and invites to a poetic walk over the water in an old factory, the last remaining example of a proto-factory.

KFamilies

It is an immersion in scenographic spaces and in reconstructions of historical decorations that await the visitor. He thus travels in time and in the atmosphere of the glorious era of the textile industry in Verviers, thanks to the machines and testimonies of textile workers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The visit takes place with a guide animator or with an audio guide (available in French, Dutch, German or English).
