Marc Sleen created the drawings for 217 Nero comic books. This is just one series but it includes so many comic books. He achieved a world record which is officially recognised in the Guinness Book of Records. Sir Marc Sleen was also awarded a knighthood by the king. His work and career, however, are also an extremely valuable reflection of a past era. Time passes and pushes us forward, and sometimes we may feel resentful about what has been. To celebrate his centenary year, we are juxtaposing Sleen’s body of work and the universe of his creation with the world as it is today, with the changes that have taken place, with evolution. The images of yesterday sometimes clash with the values we hold dear today.
Curation: Noël Slangen & Yves Kerremans with Barly Baruti & Christophe Deborsu
An exhibition of the Marc Sleen Foundation
With the support of the Brussels Capital Region.
