House of Megaliths

Leaflet | Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors

The House of Megaliths of Wéris welcomes visitors wishing to explore Wéris and its site of dolmens and menhirs. It consists of a museum, a reception area, a shop and a cafeteria.

The museum informs about the phenomenon of megalithism and the Neolithic era of the farmers who built these strange monuments.

It presents the techniques that made it possible to erect dolmens 5000 years ago and depicts the lifestyles of these first sedentaries.

The reception area also offers walking plans to explore the megaliths, the village and the “legendary stones”.

KFamilies

The House of Megaliths offers a ride game entitled “In search of lost dolmen”. With the help of a roadbook (in French or in Dutch) the families follow a 5 km route full of observation questions. The answers will help to find the “lost dolmen” location. In the museum an interactive terminal allows the little ones to take a quiz about the Neolithic and the elderly to obtain additional information about the megalithic field.

JSchools

Fun activities (for a whole or a half day) are organized for schools. These activities consist of observation games in the museum and at the archaeological site, a quiz, a game based on chronology and an animation about evolution thanks to the formation of prehistoric skulls. An educational file can be provided to the teacher upon request.

OGroups

The museum offers a wide range of tours. They can relate to the museum, the village of Wéris, the church, the megalithic field, the stones of legends or the surroundings of la Terre de Durbuy. It is possible to have a picnic in the cafeteria (capacity of 50 seats).

MCompanies

Tours are also planned for companies. These visits combine the museum visit and a walk (free or commented) to the megaliths, the route of which depends on demand.

PSeniors

The House of Megaliths offers various types of tours suitable for the elderly. They can relate to the museum, the village of Wéris, the church, the megalithic field, the stones of legends or the surroundings of la Terre de Durbuy.

LPeople with specific needs

Adjustments have been made to the building to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. For example, a driveway for the entrance to the museum was installed.
