Lieux-Communs/Villa Josa
The Villa Josa is the headquarters of the non-profit organisation Lieux-Communs and is a former Belle Epoque hotel-restaurant listed in the Walloon heritage inventory. It contains art nouveau furniture by the Belgian architect and decorator Gustave Serrurier-Bovy.
Contemporary art exhibitions are periodically held there.
Since 2017, the contemporary art festival In Champion has taken over various emblematic places in the village of Champion. In addition to the temporary works presented during the exhibitions, a permanent artistic network has been created with, to date, the works of artists Julie Digard, Sophie Le Grand, Florence Lenain, Ludovic Mennesson and Pascale Marthine Tayou.
At the initiative of Lieux-Communs, Champion has joined the Euroart network, created at the initiative of the European Commission and Parliament. It brings together 46 artists’ villages established in 12 European countries.
A Euroart residency was created at the Villa Josa to host an artist in residence each year who works on the notions of territory and landscape. At the end of the residency, a solo exhibition is organised at the Villa Josa. By taking into account the history of the site and the evolution of ecosystems, the aim is to build an innovative and contemporary form of residence and artists’ village in Champion.
