Het leven in het Romeins tijdperk

Het Gallo-Romeins Centrum stelt de enige exemplaren van Gallo-Romeinse schepen in België voor. Ze werden in 1975 in Pommeroeul ontdekt en recent gerenoveerd. Het museum presenteert twee Keltische boten waaronder een kano van het monoxyl type en een uitzonderlijk binnenschip van meer dan 9 meter, als “schat” van de Federatie Wallonië-Brussel geclassificeerd.

In het gezelschap van Rufus, bootsman van het oude Pommeroeul, kunnen de bezoekers het leven in de Romeinse tijd waarnemen en dit aan de hand van schaalmodellen, fresco’s, terminals en interactieve spellen aangepast aan kinderen.

Dankzij de actieve didactische aanpak en het innovatieve ontwerp is het Gallo-Romeins Centrum een formidabele educatieve exploitatiesite waar de student tijdens het Gallo-Romeins tijdperk letterlijk wordt ondergedompeld in een havendorp. Leerkaarten zijn ontwikkeld voor leerkrachten die de collecties met hun studenten willen komen ontdekken. Op reservering kunnen “participatieve” of geleide bezoeken georganiseerd worden.
