Exhibition “Clothing the cult. The splendour of liturgical textiles from Tournai Cathedral”

12/09/2021 h 28/11/2021 F Add to the calendar 2021-09-12 2021-11-28 Europe/London Exhibition “Clothing the cult. The splendour of liturgical textiles from Tournai Cathedral” TAMAT is honoured to be able to present liturgical ornaments kept in the Cathedral of Tournai. This exhibition is organised in collaboration with Les Amis de la Cathédrale de Tournai, UCLouvain and KIK-IRPA. These robes are cult-like in many ways. These opulent pieces, embroidered with silk, gold and silver thread, dazzle with their twinkling brilliance. Cleverly folded and hidden in the darkness of the sacristy of Tournai Cathedral, these ornaments evoke an imaginary world that today seems rather distant, not to say exotic: that of the splendor and grandiose luxury of ancient religious celebrations. . It is therefore important to appreciate their richness and beauty while at the same time giving them a central place in rites in which they acquire their full meaning. All this is been organised in the context of the 850th anniversary of the cathedral's dedication and the 20th anniversary of its recognition by UNESCO.
